Through the Son we live in God’s fraternity. 

Through His blood, we’re brothers for eternity. 

As two we gather with His word in hand. 

As three we rise together for His plan. 

 

And I’ll lift you up when you fall down. 

I’ll give my grip; you grab my hand. 

We’re better together, and with God—more strong, 

Because one man is no man. 

 

All through the pages that we’re turning: 

Morality, and friendship, and sound learning. 

In His word we see the model for the way: 

How to love and how to live and how we pray.

Here I am

Again. 

I suffer silently and think about the things I did. 

In a prison by my hands. 

And all that’s left of us—a broken, tattered cord of strands.

You cry yourself to sleep and think about the things I did.

his empty promises in my head.

Broken 

Bleeding 

Mind and body flogged and beaten. 

Secured 

But don’t feel 

My support of wood and cold steel.

Truly innocent in His plan.

Guilty 

I pray that He remembers me.

Matthew 7:13-23 

 

I have said my last goodbyes. 

To my judgement in the skies.                          

The leftward gate is very thin: 

Heaven’s treasure all within. 

The gate on the other side 

Is filled with smoke, and very wide. 

A few go left in robes of white. 

The rest in chains go to the right. 

 

“Lord, Lord” is what I replied, 

And He saw my heart inside. 

I looked at Him and He shook His head. 

He looked at me and He said: 

“I never knew you.” 

 

I went to church most every week. 

I didn’t kill, or steal, or cheat.

I read Your book most every day. 

I even made some time to pray.

I played for You and sang Your songs. 

I gave You tithes my whole life long.

I gave some earthly pleasures up. 

I ate Your bread and I drank Your cup! 

 

“Lord, Lord” is what I cried, 

But He knew my heart inside. 

I looked again and He shook His head. 

He looked at me and He said: 

“I never knew you.”  (No!)

“Now go!” 

 

He removes my white sheep hide, 

And reveals the wolf inside. 

On the vine, he peels my skin, 

And reveals the thorns within. 

I feel the heat rise from my toes. 

The smell of sulfur burns my nose. 

I see a furnace full of stone, 

A boiling lake, and a black, burnt throne!

Why was it meant 

For James to have that accident? 

Why did You steal 

The hands that he had used to heal? 

 

Sometimes Your perfect plan…

Climbing my stronghold, I can taste a battle won. 

More to come and decades gone, by sacrifices overrun. 

Pour the finest wine in this new victory. 

And start the drunken and encompassing frivolity. 

 

Look at me now, standing here all by myself 

The future lies ahead; I don’t have any doubts! 

Never thought it could feel like this.  Didn’t know it could be this way. 

I’m on a never-ending road on which I know the way! 

 

A new sun rises; it illuminates my life. 

A black field of long sharp thorns—the details of that morning light. 

Long the shadows born in this new day.
